Background
Chair Capital is a specialist investment firm deploying principal capital across energy transition, data centres, AI, and MedTech. Chair Partners, the firm's M&A consulting division, provides structured advisory services alongside these investment activities. Chair Capital is now building out a dedicated legal consulting practice within Chair Partners, and is looking for individuals who want to be part of building something, not just servicing it.
The Role
Chair Capital is seeking a number of corporate lawyers to join Chair Partners on a fractional basis. The legal work covers corporate M&A across private and public markets however the broader role is about developing a practice. The successful candidates will get involved in shaping the proposition, building client relationships, and contributing to the commercial direction of the division alongside the firm's deal flow.
This role sits at the intersection of law and business development, and it suits someone who has developed strong transactional skills in a large-firm environment but finds that environment increasingly at odds with how they want to work and what they want to build.
Commercial terms are structured to reflect the entrepreneurial nature of the role and will be linked to what the practice generates. For the right individual, that is part of the appeal. There is a clear pathway to a Managing Partner role within Chair Partners for those who demonstrate both the capability and the drive to grow the practice.
Candidate Profile
Solid corporate M&A experience, typically four to eight years post-qualification, across private and/or public market transactions at any recognised commercial practice.
A genuine desire to step off the billable-hours treadmill and towards something more commercially rewarding and personally meaningful.
Commercial instinct: the ability to see beyond the legal transaction to the underlying business opportunity and to engage with clients on that basis.
Comfortable operating with autonomy, without the support infrastructure of a large firm, and motivated by what you build rather than what you bill.
The credibility and interpersonal capability to develop client relationships independently and to represent Chair Partners to institutional counterparties.
Engagement
The engagement is fractional. Time commitment and scope are agreed individually and can sit alongside existing commitments. Commercial terms are performance-linked, reflecting the practice-building nature of the role. Chair Capital is looking for individuals who are energised by the prospect of sharing in what they build.
